Cheptegei win Uganda a gold

Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei of Uganda, the reigning 5000m champion from the Tokyo Olympics, clinched the 10000m gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Friday night, further embellishing his impressive career.

Cheptegei captured victory with a new record-setting Olympic Games time of 26:43.14 during a fast race event in the blink of an eye during the final lap.

The victory left Ugandan in celebrations and hope that other medals will be won in the 5000m.

Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi, who had finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics and last year’s World Championships, secured his first global medal by claiming silver with a time of 26:43.44.

In a stunning outcome, USA’s Grant Fisher took the bronze, finishing just behind in 26:43.46.

The men’s 10000m final was exceptionally competitive, with the top six runners finishing within one second of each other, adding to the race’s intensity.

His teammate Jacob Kiplimo finished 8th with 26:46.39 time.
