Apart from minor incidents including one on Saturday morning and the other on Sunday, the 2024 Shell V-Power Pearl of AFrica Uganda Rally won by Kenya’s Karan Patel lived to its billing.

On Saturday morning FIA delegate William Lowe canceled the first stage of the rally (24km Macarena Stage) in the morning due to safety.

This helped the organisers to learn the hard way and woke up to step up their game or else other stages could also be cancelled.

This move helped the other stages to follow smoothly thus leading to the completion of the rally in time.

Another incident was on the transport section after the competitive stage where Hassan Alwi was involved in an accident with a boda-boda rider.

Apart from that, the three-day continental event lived to its billing and FIA officials Viren Goricha and William Lowe noted that there is great improvement in the organisation and discipline of the fans.

“When I come to work, everyone ceases to be my friend and I look at the safety of the event, competitors, Fans and officials. That is why I had to take that decision yesterday (on Saturday) to cancel that stage because it was not safe,” Lowe noted.

Akena lauds the team:

FMU president Jimmy Akena lauded the organising team together with the executive for a job well-done to have the successor of the event.

Akena thanked Shell, KCB, Uganda Railways Scoul and hon Daudi Migereko for the support and urged other brands to emulate them.

Twenty-two crews out of the 35finished the event.

Environment on sport:

Unlike in the previous events where you could find the whole scene of the rally littered. This year the organisers starting the UMOSPOC Autocross championship have witnessed great improvement in the protection of the environment.

There was a team to collect the disposables fans have used and this left the environment clean even in the stages at the spectator zone.

Jinja wants more

Joan Machora, the minister for foreign affairs in the kingdom of Busoga who was the chief Guest lauded FMU for choosing Busoga to host the continental event.

She urged the federation to give them more events because they have a great impact on the economy of Busoga region.

“We are more excited to have the pearl of Africa rally here in Busoga. The King is a great fan of Motorsport and we want more rallies to come here in Busoga,” She added.
