Youngsters impress in Garuga

Youngsters continue to excite parents and fans in the motocross calendar. In Garuga riders in the 50cc Jr, 50cc,65cc, and 85cc class excited the fans more.

However, that leaves the question of where the future of the falls when riders keep exiting the sport at the stage they are much needed.

On Saturday, January 27, 2024, in Garuga Fortune Sentamu (MX1), Milton Akaki, Milton Akena, Telvin Jjunju, and Jeremaih Mwanda (MX2) were missing in action giving fans reason to be scared that the top-class racers may exit the sport.

However, Jimmy Akena, the parent of Milton Obote and uncle to Milton Akaki told UMOSPOC Media that the two riders had malaria and will be back.

“The boys had malaria but will be returning in the next event which is on Febuary3 in Garuga,” Akena said.

Out of the expected 80 riders only 60 turned and the fans were low causing some federation officials to start questioning why not only the number of fans but also riders is dwindling.

Others attributed the low turn of fans to the organisation which was affected by the change of the race from Sunday to Saturday and others attributed it to lack of promotion.

“This is between me and you, since we (FMU) started funding clubs to organise events, they took a back seat and are not promoting their events. You see the number of fans here today,” The official said.

On the number of riders, he said that many riders were not training so, they could race but expected the next outing in the second round the number to increase.

In the Lubega racing team out of the five riders, only one was racing and the rest were on the sideline watching and the same was in the Kateete racing team as they were also on the sideline.

In the MX1 class, Fortune Sentamu and Asaf Natan did not show up and left Maxime Van Pee to battle it with Waleed Omar in the combined MX1 and MX2 classes race.

The Worldwide Movers sponsored event ended successfully with only 11 minor injuries of riders who fell during the races but later on continued with the race.
