Organising Motorsport activities is the cardinal role of the Federation of Motorsport Club of Uganda (FMU), but however, the Federation is crippled and cannot fulfil that.
On Sunday June 9,2024. FMU failed to organise the second round of the national Sprint Championship in Garuga.
Some drivers reached Garuga on Sunday only to find out that the event had been cancelled due to financial Constraints.
The Federation is categorised in Tier two of the government funding and among the Sports federations that receive sh3bn annually call it each financial year.
However, the political turmoil at the helm of the sport has caused more harm and worsened by the Inspector General of Government (IGG) ‘s freezing of the accounts.
This has stalled the activities of the federation including the internationals where the national motocross team will be involved like Morocco.
On top of that the junior motocross team is meant to go for the 2024 FIM Junior Motocross World Championship will be held at the Circuit Kamperweg Heerde in The Netherlands, on 14th July 2024.
This means that without the federation accounts opened, the two teams may not travel for the continental and world championship.
Reynold Kibira, the FMU secretary Reynold Kibira, attributed the cancelling of the Sunday Sprint to lack of funds because of the existing situation.
“The IGG freezed the accounts and we are yet to get clearance. So, we can borrow money to put the Federation in big debts that attract interests,” Kibira said.
Last month the IGG freezed all the FMU accounts in Absa and KCB bank citing failure to vacate the office by Dipu Ruparelia management after their term of office expired on February 3, last year.
This was after a group of Motorsport enthusiasts led by Geoffrey Nsamba a member of Uganda Motorsport Marshals Association petitioned the IGG that Ruparelia management are illegally occupying the office and operating the Federations accounts.
However, even after the election of new management, the Federation Accounts are still closed.
End.
